It usually only takes me 20 minutes of any tv premiere to know if I’m going to like a series and the remaining time wondering if the networks are going to give it a full run if I dedicate my time to it! For so long we have been burned by ratings chasing networks and I’ve had enough!!!
Haven airs on the Syfy channel in the US every Friday at 10pm and currently has a run of eight episodes that run to the end of August – let’s hope, judging on the first episode, it gets renewed next season or at the least an additional order of episodes for season 1.
From mysterious powers and mystical, mesmerising fog, the town, based in Maine is a curiosity – as are its inhabitants. This all makes for an intriguing show, full of promise and humorous one liners. People with supernatural abilities have migrated for generations because it mutes their powers, allowing them to lead normal lives.
The show introduces us to FBI agent Audrey Parker (played by Emily Rose) who is sent to Haven to capture an ex-con who has escaped from prison, killing a guard in the process. Parker soon discovers she has a murder to investigate when the ex-con is discovered dead on the beach. Why was Parker sent to Haven? Are there ulterior motives behind the initial investigation? It certainly looks that way, someone plans to keep Parker in Haven.
Haven has a certain charm to it, that’s fairly obvious to see even after one episode and as long as ratings are good I see a long future for the series.
