Joe Nichols “As Country As She Gets”

Way back in 1994 I was introduced to country music via Tim McGraw’s”Don’t Take The Girl“. It meant a lot to me then and it still does, I never tire enough from listening or watching that video – I still get shivers when I listen to the story that unfolds in the video.

As the years have passed I’ve become a staunch fan of the new country style and quite often listen to Tracy Lawrence, Billy Currington, Dixie Chicks, Lee Ann Womack, Miranda Lambert …. I could go on and on!!! I digress, the reason for this post is Joe Nichols. Nichols is an amazing singer who has struggled in recent times with substance abuse checking in to rehab in 2007.

Don’t ask me why but I can’t get enough of  “As Country As She Gets”, it’s just an amazing track. Never released as a single it’s one of the stand out tracks from his 2005 “III” album. Despite the number 1 “Tequila Makes her clothes fall off” and the wonderfully moving single “I’ll Wait for You”,  “As Country As She Gets” still remains a big favourite. “III”  is a Gold album and reached number 2 in the charts.

No apology from Apple but here’s a free case!

Dubbed Antennagate, the iphone4 has received a mixed reception (sorry I know that was bad!) since its launch a few weeks ago with the reputation for the apple brand receiving a kick in the teeth. It certainly hasn’t been plain sailing for Jobs and his kronies at Apple HQ. Indeed, such has been the hype in the media and on the street that Apple were forced into a press conference today to answer the problems users have faced so far.

Apple CEO Steve Jobs kicked off a press conference Friday at his company’s headquarters with an unusual admission of fallibility.

“We’re not perfect. We know that. You know that. And [our] phones aren’t perfect either,” Jobs told the assembled crowd of about 90 journalists and bloggers, addressing widely-reported problems with the iPhone 4’s antenna.

“We’ve been working our butts off to understand what the real problems are,” Jobs added, referring to the problem as “Antennagate.”

For those who had either tuned in, eager to hear an apology from Steve Jobs, they would have been severely disappointed because an apology wasn’t and isn’t forthcoming! To counter the signal problem Jobs has offered owners a free protective case which will alleviate the problem caused by fingers making an electrical connection when the phone is in use.

Customers who already bought a case will be able to get a refund of the purchase price, Jobs said. The offer will be available on Apple.com starting next week through September 30th.

He also stated that just 0.55% of iPhone 4 customers have called the company’s customer support line to complain about antenna problems, and that just 1.7 percent of iPhone 4s were returned by their customers. By comparison, he said, the iPhone 3GS return rates were 6 percent.

Yorkshire Ripper (Peter Sutcliffe) to remain in prison

Peter Sutcliffe aka Peter Coonan aka The Yorkshire Ripper will never be released from prison Mr Justice Mitting declared this morning at the Royal Courts of Justice.

It won’t come as a huge shock to anyone despite the initial ruling back in 1981 (which opened the door today) that Sutcliffe would have to serve a minimum of 30 years behind bars. The former Bradford lorry driver was convicted of 13 murders and seven attempted murders, he received 20 life sentences. Books Available.

Sutcliffe is currently serving his life at  Broadmoor high-security psychiatric hospital in Berkshire and will remain there for the foreseeable future. A judge recently refused to allow fresh psychiatric evidence, which said he posed a “low risk of reoffending” to be admitted as part of the tariff-setting exercise. This really is a huge concern! Fortunately a judge saw fit not to allow the evidence but who in their right mind would claim a mass murderer of Sutcliffe’s renown wouldn’t be likely to reoffend? – Crazy!

In making his judgement Mr Justice Mitting said: “This was a campaign of murder which terrorised the population of a large part of Yorkshire for several years.”

He added: “Apart from a terrorist outrage, it is difficult to conceive of circumstances in which one man could account for so many victims.

“Those circumstances alone make it appropriate to set a whole life term.”

Chuck’s Chick ! Yvonne Strahovski

There’s little doubting the main attraction for most red blooded males to NBC’s ratings winner Chuck – Sarah Walker played by Yvonne Strahovski. The series has remained true to its followers and despite an on again, off again battle with NBC they decided not only to fill a 3rd season but grant the show an extension and order a fourth season! Few fans could have hoped for this result 6 months ago but boy are we pleased! Chuck Season 3 is now available on Blu-ray and of course DVD!

It means that as long as the writers see sense, Sarah Walker will remain on our screens for a little while longer! So when does Season 4 premiere? You have a little while longer to wait – 2 months infact – Chuck versus the anniversary (S4 Ep1) airs on NBC September 20th 2010.

Dolph Lundgren and Harry Dean Stanton are confirmed guest stars for the first episode.

The episode summary for the final episode of season three read “Morgan, Devon and Ellie team up to save Team Bartowski from the Ring, while Chuck’s flashes start to give him headaches, after Shaw took the governor from him.

Meanwhile, the Buy More owner Moses contacts Big Mike with an ultimatum.”

It truly was the perfect ending to a third season, it had everything from raw emotion of Chuck’s father to downright hilarity. Chuck’s relationship with Sarah is starting to develop into a series concern now that both spies are living together – the secret stsh of guns was a nice touch even though Chuck was unaware of the arsenal!

So what about the big tease at the end? Holy Chuck – Chuck’s mother!!! I can’t wait to see who actually plays Ma Bartowski – could it be wonder woman Lynda Carter? …
