Heath for an Oscar ? let's hope so
So who’s going to win the most coveted statue (well the one you can take home with you anyway!) in the movie world. UPDATE …Complete List of winners and comments here.Like most of us I have no idea but I will take a pot shot and guess ahead of the official results tonight. I’m sure I’ll be way off the mark and despite having a reasonable idea most seasons – I haven’t seen the Slumdog Millionaire and can only go with the hype! So it’s a guess rather than an educated guess! Complete List Here
Best Film
Nominated: The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button, Frost/Nixon, Milk, The Reader, Slumdog Millionaire
For me it’s a sure fire thing, between two films! Slumdog Millionaire and Benjamin Button – Slumdog will win although I’d love to see Benjamin Button win this one.
Director
Nominated - David Fincher (The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button), Ron Howard (Frost/Nixon), Gus Van Sant (Milk), Stephen Daldry (The Reader), Danny Boyle (Slumdog Millionaire) – David Fincher for me but again I think it will be a Slumdog victory.
Actor
Nominated: Richard Jenkins (The Visitor), Frank Langella (Frost/Nixon), Sean Penn (Milk), Brad Pitt (The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button), Mickey Rourke (The Wrestler) – Without doubt between two actors – Pitt and Rourke. I thought Langella’s performance in Nixon stole that film but not strong enough for an oscar. I’m going with Brad Pitt but think the populous vote will be for Rourke.
Supporting Actor
Nominated: Josh Brolin (Milk), Robert Downey Jr. (Tropic Thunder), Philip Seymour Hoffman (Doubt), Heath Ledger (The Dark Knight), Michael Shannon (Revolutionary Road) – Heath Ledgder – FACT
Actress
Nominated: Anne Hathaway (Rachel Getting Married), Angelina Jolie (Changeling), Melissa Leo (Frozen River), Meryl Streep (Doubt), Kate Winslet (The Reader) – this one is a tough decision. I thought Jolie’s performance in Changeling was remarkable while Winslet’s role harsh but powerful. However there was something missing in “The Reader” for me and with this in mind I will go for Angelina Jolie for the win.
Supporting Actress
Nominated: Amy Adams (Doubt), Penelope Cruz (Vicky Cristina Barcelona), Viola Davis (Doubt), Taraji P. Henson (The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button), Marisa Tomei (The Wrestler) – going out on a limb and will pick Tomei for the award but it will probably Cruz to Cruz!!!
So there you have it, not a huge or complete list of who’s up for what but I would be here forever listing all categories!!! Get the champagne in, chocolates and nibbles at the read and enjoy – whoever wins! let’s just hope the main stars grace the red carpet this year!!!!
