LCD or Plasma – Help !

Ok the time has come to bite the bullet and buy a new TV !!! Problem is I don’t know what I should be looking for that will give me HD quality and a great picture. Based in the UK so no good for US specs ! I am ideally looking for a 40″ screen but can’t decide between plasma and LCD – apart from weight what is the difference, is one a better picture than the other ?

My plan is to buy a HD ready TV, cheaper the better I guess and keep it as a main TV for 3 years and then buy a really nice one once the market has settled down. This TV will then be used in the den as a second set to replace the CRT that is there at the moment. Are there any benefits or pitfalls to either type of TV ? Are they noisy, quiet, hot or cold ? I don’t know if anyone is reading this but if someone has any thoughts or has indeed bought a new tv lately any thoughts would be superb ! Help me solve my problem !!!

Should I go for 2 HDMI connections ? Can I connect my pc/lap top directly to the PC or will that require a separate connector ? I hope there are some techo guys/girls out there !!…

Eureka – Great Series !

Jack CarterAbsolutely loved this first episode, well actually the first episode was a bumper double episode and just like a great movie, time flew and before I knew it it had ended. The series, simply called “Eureka” across the pond premiered on July 18th, just a little over two weeks ago before the UK – a minor miracle in itself!!!

The sci-fi pilot centres around a US Marshal aka Jack Carter played by Colin Ferguson (the hero of the series) in “Backwater USA” – although I have to say it did look rather an attractive backwater, I certainly wouldn’t have any trouble living there! The government has been relocating the world’s geniuses and their families to this rustic town for years where innovation and chaos have lived hand in hand.

We are introduced to a number of characters and the majority of the main players within the first 15 minutes including a GI Jane, hot DOD Agent ( Salli Richardson-Whitfield), sexy bed and breakfast psychotherapist come owner (Debrah Farentino) and a talented kid who solves math problems and has Alzheimer’s. The characters are as diverse as the pilot is, all of whom all interweave in this crazy town. The series definitely shows promise, well written and has an underlying hint of comedy genius – I think so anyway.

The show had me completely engrossed and sucked me in from the get go, I just hope that it can keep up the high standards of the pilot, although I do think this could be a hard task to follow. The relationships show promise especially that of the DOD Agent, her son and Jack – that’s what I think anyway. The psychotherapist is hiding some deep dark secret and is a nasty bit of work and GI Jane …

Rambles from Fiji Love Island !

Kelle BryanI thought I’d write a little more today, not on Sophie Anderton but Kelle Bryan from girl band Eternal. I would have to say that she exudes so much good on the island it’s hard to believe someone can be that nice. Add to that her exotic great looks and ladies and gentlemen, you have a winner. Don’t get me wrong, Bianca and Colleen are two stunners but for all round looks and personality you will not in my opinion beat Kelle, she is the complete package. Not hooking up with Brendan will have helped her this week too, gone has the safety of an “arranged” coupling, neither of whom likes the other in “that way”. It’ll be a good thing for her confidence too following Chris Brosnan’s decision to pick her as his better half. That said despite his reason for picking Kelle “I choose Kelle because she’s attractive”, I think he had an ulterior motive and would have given half a chance chosen Colleen from Lee!

If you could couple like minded individuals I would probably put Kelle and Shane together in the resort, nothing will ever happen romantically between them but I think each other’s company would be good for both parties. Shane is obviously not interested in hooking up with anyone, something the British public sussed out when they put Brendan and Eve into the love shack. The only reason Sophie got voted in was her constant crying in the first week as a singleton, why couldn’t she have Bianca’s attitude? Remind me again, who’s the older of the two?

Lee is going to struggle over the next few days with Colleen and Abs exchanging lingering looks across a semi crowded resort! Only time will tell if Paul and Chris get through to him telling …

Prison Break DVD (Complete)

Prison Break DVDI’ve just finished watching the first four episodes of Prison Break from FOX on DVD. The dvd set arrived on Monday and I’ve only just had chance to start going through it to see what it’s like – all I can tell you so far is that I am incredibly impressed with everything so far. The box set comes in 22 packed episodes on six dvd’s. The box set is presented in three slimline cases, each case holding two discs each, four episodes on each dvd except disc six which houses bonus additions and the final two episodes. Buy It Now from Amazon !

This is the first series I’ve owned that come in the slimline packs and I am impressed, the discs are very easy to take out although houses securely. This can’t always be said for the book style cases most often preferred to by the dvd houses. I prefer this method as the wear and tear of the packaging and the discs is put to a minimum, good move Fox.

As I mentioned above I’ve only watched the first four episodes, “The Pilot” and “Allen”, ”Cell Test” and ”Cute Poison”, the first episode has a great commentary with Paul Scheuring (creator and writer) & Dominic Purcell (who plays Lincoln), Wenworth Miller’s on screen brother. I’ve already seen the series on tv and must stress – do not, I repeat do not watch the pilot or Cute Poison (with commentary) if you haven’t seen the series – it contains spoilers and information on the series including chat about series 2! Don’t get me wrong, they aren’t huge spoilers but nonetheless why risk disappointment and future enjoyment!

The quality of transfer as should be expected is amazing, colours are deep and sound (5.1 Dolby) excellent, it certainly adds atmosphere to viewing on home cinema. Don’t miss out on …

Love on Love Island !!!

Woo Hoo, we have a new love interest in Love Island and no it’s not miss Anderton and herself again but Brendan Cole and new girl Eve, both locking lips on a day trip away from the love shack. More on that in a little while. I’m sorry but Sophie is really doing my head in now, the whole world resolves around her, she has an opinion on everything and all the tasks are devised to belittle her. Please Anderton give it a freckin rest, it’s an old record that we don’t want to hear time and time again.

To make matters worse for Sophie, new girl Emma chose Shane as her partner for the weekly couples task- classic Anderton jealous look !!! Meanwhile Brendan and Eve were getting on like a house on fire on the trip to the jungle “Eve tempting Brendan”, takes you right back to Adam and Eve it does – where was the apple ? !! Following an extreme climb up an amazing waterfall they shared a drink and picnic, Brendan swooping in for a kiss to the obvious delight of Eve. Tonight in the love shack will be interesting, sparks might fly. Sophie Anderton, sorry I haven’t finished talking about her yet now wants to leave the Island, i wonder if she’s worried her career might be in jeopardy – too late!!!!

Brendan’s oneliner was a classic “You aren’t common, I don’t do common girls” !!!! Stand by for some classy jacuzzi action and bed sharing later with the not so common Eve – go for it girl, let’s see Brendan do the tango tonight !!…

Jennifer and Ghost Whisperer

JLH mmmJust watched an episode of Jennifer Love Hewitt’s Ghost Whisperer on E4 and I am yet again reminded of her grace and beauty. The show itself is a great show and very pleased it has been renewed in the US. I’ve seen the first 11 episodes but waiting to watch them as they air now – watching on a PC just doesn’t have it for me at the moment. Maybe I should buy a new lap top and tv that allows me to connect both!! Easy, problem solved !!

So far every episode follows the same formula each with a slight variation or twist, A couple of the episodes I’ve seen have been a little creepy, not surprising given the subject matter ! I was also shocked to see Wentworth Miller in the first episode of the series, didn’t expect that after watching him in Prison Break. Did I mention my copy of Prison Break complete series one arrived in the mail today ? No ? I’ll have to post my thoughts on that a little later, maybe tomorrow.

Back to Ghost Whisperer, when Wentworth was “haunting” JLH in her new home and the storm was blowing a gale outside it was very intense, great though. Thinking about it though I think my favourite episode has to be that of the orphan children in the house that burned down, very moving and well acted by all those involved. As I mentioned all the episodes are similar but different enough not to be same old, same old or repetitive. I’ve heard today the first season dvd has been delayed from the end of September so who knows when that will be available.

Anyone else like Ghost Whisperer ?…

Four up for Eviction ?

Interesting times ahead in Big Brother UK this week following a “malfunction” when the names of those up for eviction were announced. Only Imogen’s name was clearly heard which meant that Aisleyne and Glyn were safe as Big brother always announces names in alphabetical order. It has now been leaked by a national newspaper that three others will be joining Imogen for eviction on Friday. They are Susie, Mikey and Jennie. According to the bookmakers Mikey is now a certain to leave the house on Friday but who knows, only you decide!!

Spoon me luveeeerThe race to win seems to be clear cut with Pete and Glyn aiming to be the next Big brother winner with support for the Welshman growing daily. If it had been down to just Imogen and Susie I think Imogen would be going but the bookies have seen something they don’t like in Mikey this week and the results could be very interesting. I’d be delighted if jennie gets to stay another week, she’s without doubt my favourite of all the females in the house. That said I wouldn’t shed a tear if Susie was eliminated, what has she done since going in the house expcept made a cup of tea every five minutes and be a mother hen to the house mates.

Another interesting development in the house over the last few days is Jennie and Pete’s relationship but Glyn threw his weight into the mix by spooning Jennie earlier today, Jennie loving every minute of it apparently. Yet again we see another love triangle in this house, will this mean the end of Jennie’s stay? Who knows, watch and find out.…
